Data for Neighbourhoods and Regeneration: www.data4nr.net contains a really great treasure trove of national datasets which can be broken down to local levels. Again a really great portal for a range of information to help people do analysis work and/or develop business cases.

There is a really great RSAnimate video on the power of “motivation” setting staff free/giving them autonomy to do their own work – it’s only 10mins long, but it really captures the idea of people/staff ingenuity if only they were managed differently. I think it could be a really good way of evidencing why “staff, service professionals” must be part of any solution to service problems/why simply paying people more money won’t necessarily improve performance/outcomes. Have a look - www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXV6SYrQ_IE

If you want to go far, walk together." http://www.govint.org/good-practice/publications/if-you-want-to-go-fast/ It contains some good observations about the barriers and benefits of co-production, and the UK was one of the countries included in the research.

Thanks Dave for the support! I havent heard of Yammer, will have a look at it. I think the real challange is not so much the medium you use, there are plenty of methods for holding conversations online, its about getting people to use them in the first place, and then sustaining those conversations...

Picking up on the comments made by violetTherese, this process promised council support in the short term, while the projects were prototyped to learn from the process and to let them demonstrate their value. It may have been expected that, if the project was successful, further funding would become available.

Supporting community projects without a long-term or sustainability plan poses risks as, if no further support is available, the hard-won achievements could be lost and those that engaged in the process may be disappointed.

There was a period of several weeks down time after the initial meetings where 'the hub' was set up to operate as a project office (this involved getting a colour printer installed and council wifi connection). It was important to seize the momentum from those initial workshops and demonstrate that the council can work in new ways, for example by subsiding the cafe to install it's own wifi connection, which would have been quicker and a more effective solution long term.

This way of working brought into focus the benefits of having an organisation to channel the funding allocated. It was really useful to have an organisation like High Trees involved who could take on the financial responsibilities and administer funds to allow the projects the agility and responsiveness they needed to deliver in the short time frames. Wondering how this would work where this type of organisation doesn’t exist? Maybe there would be a need to set up an umbrella organisation? This would help with the sustainability/ legacy too.

Sue said: "Accountability should be included in project planning processes. What is the process for making decisions when groups who do not have a formal constitution are commissioned to deliver projects?
